Russia’s Only Let-Down

Location: St. Petersburg, Russia

St. Petersburg exceeded all my expectations. The weather was heads and shoulders above its Northern European neighbours, the buildings absolutely stunning and the city had such a vibrant feel to it. Not to mention that everything seemed ridiculously cheap thanks to the ruble crisis. We had found a restaurant called Leica which had received great reviews on Trip Advisor and was close to where we were meeting friends that evening.

Verdict: When our “bread basket with garlic butter” arrived, I was disappointed by how accurately the food matched the description. Two small dinner rolls with a dollop of butter, half of which wasn’t even garlic, in a metal basket. Surely some creative license and a desire to surprise and delight would’ve yielded happier customers? The bread was tough (heated in a microwave) and the butter sadly ungarlicky. However, the restaurant served pretty awesome cocktails.
