Rivals the Danish

Location: Ølstykke, Denmark

My second HelpX-ing stint took place in Ølstykke, a small, lush pocket of Denmark. With fields of yellow rapeseed flowers abound and the nearest supermarket a 20 minute bike-ride away, life was simple. I had free reign in the family’s beautiful and well-equipped kitchen (feat. another awesome garlic crusher), and they even made some delicious brown bread loaves in the morning before leaving for work. Who’s working for who here?

Olystykke Butterfly and dandelion

Verdict: Not bad, not bad. The bread was quite dense though, which means the butter didn’t have too much of a buttery effect. Maybe the butter:bread ratio was a bit off. However, the chunky rock salt typically used in Denmark added a nice bit of crunch, and the garlic was crushed to perfection. The grains used in the bread made it taste almost healthy…
